“Physically educated persons are those who have learned to arrange their lives in such a way that the habitual physical activities they freely engage in make a distinctive contribution to their wider flourishing.” - James MacAllister

Vision

At St. John’s we aim to ensure all children enjoy and develop positive attitudes to Physical Education and Sport.

Through Physical Education and sport, we aim to:

  • Improve fitness.
  • Promote active participation and lifelong learning.
  • Allow children a wide range of opportunities and experiences in sport.
  • Encourage them to achieve their full potential.
  • Motivate children to lead a healthy and active lifestyle which they can continue for the rest of their lives.

Inclusion and SEND: Our curriculum is fully inclusive. Teachers make reasonable adjustments so that pupils with SEND can access and achieve in lessons. Strategies may include scaffolded tasks, pre‑teaching of vocabulary, adapted resources, visual supports, assistive technology and targeted adult support, in line with our SEND Policy and pupils’ support plans.

Finding out more: Parents/carers can request further information about our curriculum by contacting the subject leader via the school office. Long‑term plans and progression documents are available to view on this page.

Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and is sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time.
