New to Early Years

Welcome to Early Years!

We are really excited to be welcoming you to our St John's family.

You may be looking at this page as your child will be joining our Nursery or Reception class (EYFS). Starting school is a significant and exciting time for both parents and children, and we would like to support you with this as much as possible.

Below you will find some useful links to help you and your child prepare to make the transition to school.

Nursery

Nursery is a vibrant, fun and exciting place. We offer 15 or 30 hour  places for children who have reached their third birthday. We have three starts throughout the year, September, January or April and visits and 'stay and plays' built in as part of the transition. Please contact school and arrange to speak to our Nursery teacher and EYFS lead, Miss Weatherburn to find out more.

Please also visit our Nursery class page to read more!

Reception

In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the children follow a play-based curriculum that will provide them with opportunities to:

  • Develop their confidence, independence and social interaction.
  • Encounter a range of new and exciting experiences, through the power of play. Build upon the skills they have as they leave the home environment to start school.
  • Develop these skills as an individual.
  • Prepare for the next stage in their primary school curriculum.

Please visit our Reception class page to read more!

If you have any questions about your child starting at St John's please contact the school and we'll be happy to help.
