Count up your body parts!
Can your child answer quickly how many eyes/ears/noses they have?
Guess the body part!
Describe the purpose of the body part.
"Which body part am I? You can hear with me... etc
Can your child tell you which body part you are describing. Can you reverse the role and let your child be the clue giver?
Doodle time!
Draw yourself or each other. Can you remember all of the body parts you just sang about?
Make a Monster!
A great way to practise the vocabulary of body parts is to do a picture dictation. E.g. you say: this is a monster. He has two heads and four eyes, etc. Children have to draw the monster according to the your description. Ensure you use only vocabulary the children have come across before – this can include numbers, colours, sizes and shapes e.g. The monster has four, small, blue, triangular ears.

'If you're happy and you know it' is a super simple repetitive rhyme which gets children thinking of all of the ways we can express how we are feeling.
It's important, more so than ever to give children the right words to attach how they are feeling to a label to describe it.
When children can communicate how they are feeling using their words, they are more likely to communicate that in a way that is appropriate.
If You're Happy and You Know It!

5 Currant Buns in a Baker's Shop
A favourite rhyme for the children in Nursery,
Remember that 5 is a waving hand!
Learn the concept of 'one less'.
Reinforce the language 'that leaves 4...' etc.
You could use some roleplay cakes and pretend they are your currant buns or even have a try at making some salt dough currant buns which you could 'sell' in your own shop at home.
Use pennies to reinforce the concept of taking away, starting with 5x 1p coins, handing one over to the shopkeeper with each verse.
Let's explore colours and colour songs and stories!
I can sing a rainbow | Early Years - Nursery Rhymes
"Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" | David Glenn

On In Under By Song
A simple song to help practice the prepositions on, in, under and by.
The hunt continues...
Nursery are unhappy with Evil Pea's antics. First he trapped and wrapped the fruit, then he drew on the fruit and vegetables. Their faces showed they weren't happy!
Well spotted Isabelle!
We looked all over the classroom and eventually found him! Then he bounced away again! Will we ever catch him!
Setting traps!
Rebekah had a great idea... "If he comes back in through the window, I will catch him in this basket. I'll put a cushion on top. He won't escape then!"
Where's the Monkey?
A song to help children learn prepositions of place.
Week 4 - The freezing of Evil Pea! After many attempts at escape, Nursery decided that we must freeze the Evil Pea to stop his shenanigans! The children problem solved where we would put him, how we could freeze him and how long we needed to leave him in the freezer! We even made signs to warn others not to open the freezer door, just in case he defrosted again!
He's out of the freezer...and he's defrosting❄️☀️
