Inter-faith Week - 2019

Nursery celebrated difference through self-portraits with Mrs Knight

Reception explored the 6 main faiths and created an interfaith necklace using different coloured pasta shapes, each colour represented a different faith. We discussed some of the different places or worship, special books and even prayers.

Year 1 explored what Advent means for catholics and what rituals are performed during this important religious time of preparation. We enjoyed making ‘christingles’ and finding out how catholics have a ‘christingle’ service for children in church to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

In Year 2 we looked at Buddhism. We practised meditation and even wrote our own. We used our art skills to make a lotus flower.

In Year 3 the children studied the Hindu festival of colour, Holi. We learned the ancient Indian tale of good prevailing over evil and explored the festival in modern day India. We used real Holi powder to create some art work. This proved to be very tricky and extremely messy. However, we learned lots about this tradition!

Year 4

In Year 4, we studied Islam and created our own painted printing blocks depicting Mosques. We welcomed two visitors into school to share the daily life of a Muslim, to describe worship within the mosque and to describe what is meant by ‘halal’.
